To boldly go

You know how sometimes the weekend just flashes by and it seems that as you leave work on a Friday evening it feels like you've just blinked and your back at your desk on a Monday morning? Well that's how today seems to me although I'm sitting at a different desk as we've had a bit of an office switch round which had made me all the more confused.
I DJed at Tonker on Friday evening in Vauxhall and although I was doing the early set the place was soon full of sexy hunky men cruising and boozing for me to peruse. When I say the place was full what I really mean is that the lovely beer garden was full with folk only dashing in to listen to my tunes as they bought more drinks, damn the summer!
I had it in mind to go out afterwards, as I was due to finish at midnight, but as the evening went on I realised that I was in fact quite knackered from my week's work and it only took my flatmate Nick to suggest we should head home as he too was not in the mood to carry on to convince me that a night on the tiles was probably a bad idea.
I resolved to try not to leave the house on Saturday as I really needed a day of rest so when Nick suggested he would go to the chippy to get some very naughty food so that I wouldn't even have to vacate my 'Homer dent' on the sofa I jumped at the chance, well I say jumped I mean I just sat there and agreed.
I spent the evening channel surfing and so managed to actually miss some of the shows I wanted to watch which is surprising as there doesn't seem to be much on that catches my eye at the moment. I remember when I was young my mum would complain that there was a couple of repeats on during any given evening and now it's remarkable if there are any new shows on at all.
I ended up glued to Star Trek IV The Undiscovered Country which although very dated does have a decent story line and I love to watch the original crew, some of whom are stuffed very firmly into girdles with slightly unconvincing hair pieces, in action.
Sunday was spent as ever at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern working but this week we had a fairly large hen party in which to my knowledge was a first. I have to say some of the regulars where a little perplexed by this but it tuned out that the bride to be was a niece of the D E Experience and knew the drill very well indeed.
I've got a couple of days off work this week which is very welcome indeed as I haven't had a break since March. I'm going to get out of London with my best mate Matt and go down to Hampshire to see my parents and breath in some country air.
Matt and I will be attending the new Forest And Hampshire County Show on Thursday which will be an eye opener specially if we bump into any of those hunky young farmers! We're also supposed to be going sailing on the Solent on Saturday so lets hope the weather holds up. If we make it through this great farming and boating few days I'll shall report back next week on our exciting adventures.
Slings and roundabouts

It was mostly about other people's partying this weekend although I had managed to blag myself an invite to a very posh private do on Friday for the rest of the weekend I didn't feel much like waving my hand in the air like I just didn't care.
My mate Kevin had asked if he could stay with me for the a couple of days as he'd been invited to a wedding in Surrey and it was easier for him to get to and back from if he was at Le Vans Towers. Sadly I'd already accepted my invite to the party on Friday night so had to bugger off not long after he arrived.
He and my flatmate Nick had never met before so I felt a bit awkward leaving them in the house together but Nick was busy getting himself ready to take part in the big fetish weekend which had descended on London and anyway I figured as they were both very good friends of mine they'd probably get on like a house on fire.
The party was pretty amazing with champagne flowing like it was going out of fashion and it wasn't as if you had to fill your own glass either for out very generous host Richard had even employed staff to top us up and hand round canapés. Needless to say I drank far to much, free champers is the only thing I can't resist, you can shove infinite amounts of any other stimulation in my face and I will eventually want to stop but with the bubbly stuff I have no off switch.
When I eventually staggered in Kevin was watching the television and Nick was out and about and not to be seen for much of the rest of the weekend as it turned out, dirty stop out! We had a drink and a damn good catch up, the chat was lovely but I think the drink may have tipped me over the edge as I had the hangover from hell the next morning.
When I eventually dragged myself out of bed Kevin and I went to my local the Kings Arms on Tooley street for one of their enormous breakfasts and a pint of orange juice which I just about managed to get through before feeling a little queasy. When we got back to the flat Kevin busied himself ironing his clothes for the wedding while I slumped on the sofa feeling sorry for myself only sitting up to encourage my mate Matt who called to say he was nervous about his first big drive involving duel carriageways and roundabouts since passing his test .
After Kevin left for the do I tried to sleep off my hangover but only managed to doze, interrupted occasionally by a text and a change of program on the television. I knew Kevin wasn't due back until much later on, late enough I was hoping that he wouldn't want to go out on the town because I knew I would so not be up for it.
One of the texts which stirred me from my vegetative state was from the lovely Hugh Stevenson, a fellow DJ, to inform me that GaydarRadio and indeed myself had got a mention in the Times. There was a feature about DAB radio in their Playlist magazine which included a top ten of digital stations and I was picked as the 'must listen' in the piece about Gaydar which was very chuff-making indeed.
Kevin eventually returned at about midnight so it was far too late to go out clubbing (not really but I managed to persuade him that it was a bad idea). We shared a couple of drinks while he told me tales abut his day, which sounded wonderful, then I slopped off to bed still feeling like death.
By Sunday I felt almost back to normal and I discovered from Matt that he'd managed his drive around roundabouts and on duel carriageways and motorways with out crashing or loosing his nerve and even Nick surfaced to say he was having a whale of a time at the fetish weekend so all was well.
Kevin came with me to the Vauxhall Tavern on Sunday and was blown away by the D E Experience who he'd not seen for a while and commented that although he didn't think it could be possible he felt that the show was better than ever.
This Friday I'm DJing at Tonker at the Eagle in Vauxhall which I really enjoy as the evening is more of a social gathering than a full on dance night and there are always some very sexy men to cruise from the DJ box, so come down if you're in the area and either buy me a drink or make a pass at me.
Nick of time

For the first time in ages I had one of those weekends where nothing really goes to plan but it all works out ok in the end. The plan on Friday evening was for Nick and I to go round to our mate Simon's house for dinner as it was Nick's birthday weekend but in the end we decided it would be easier if he came to ours and I even offered to cook.
This offer may seem to some to be slightly run of the mill but I have to confess I'm not the greatest cook on the planet so to assure the boys I told them I'd get everything from Marks and follow the instructions to the letter so there was no chance of anyone getting poisoned.
I decided on chicken breasts with a touch of lime and garlic with rosemary and garlic potatoes and Nick made an absolutely gorgeous Greek salad. For afters I bought a very nice Key Lime pie which we pretended had very few calories in it and therefore polished the whole thing off.
During dinner we managed to get through a couple of bottles of wine between us so we decided to get not one more but two more. Looking back this was probably our first big mistake as any thoughts of finishing things off at a sensible time went out the window.
Simon eventually shuffled off home at about two o'clock, so I'm told, but Nick and I stayed up until way after the sun came up just pratting about and generally making fools of ourselves but, hey, it was his birthday weekend so why not?
We realised the next day why not. We'd arranged to go clubbing later that evening not thinking we would have gone quite so mad on the Friday so I spent most of the day asleep, waking up occasionally to dip my toe in the 'wide awake' water and not liking it so slumping back into bed with a groan.
We did eventually get ourselves up and with it enough to play host to our friend Jamie who came round to meet up with us before we headed out. I did feel a little sorry for him him though as by the time he arrived I was still slumped on the sofa wearing nothing but an old pair of shorts and no having actually made it into the shower yet.
I tried to have a couple of drinks at the club but I could hear my body shouting at me “What the hell do you think you're doing” over the music so I moved onto soft drinks. I must confess the club wasn't as busy as usual and we were all a bit the worse for wear so we slopped of quite early in order to save some energy for part three of the birthday celebrations.
Part three was inevitably held at the Royal Vauxhall Tavern where the D E Experience worked a very funny birthday greeting for Nick into one of his favourite songs and a good time was had by all. I left most of the revellers milling about in the sunshine on the grassy knoll and headed home to get some much needed rest to recharge my batteries for the week at Gaydar Towers.
This week I'm gong to spend most of my spare time setting up my new MacMini which I'm very excited about. I've had some music writing software called Logic pre-installed so I'm going to try and learn it and put together a basic track to see if I have the ability to create a dance hit or two, Freemasons watch out!
Pride and prejudice
7/8/2010 9:09:19 AM
I did something very unusual at the weekend and actually stuck to my own advice. The last thing I said on the radio on Friday was if you're going to Pride London then for god's sake lather yourself in sun cream and that's exactly what I did. Last year when I left the house to watch the parade it was drizzling so I didn't bother and when the sun came out I'm afraid I got rather burnt.
This year I decided to march in a group calling themselves Bears Against Bigotry which was set up as a reaction to some remarks make by the man behind XLL , Mark Ames, on Facebook. Although he has since apologised for what he said I felt that it was still necessary to show solidarity with the LGBT Muslim community so we marched along side Imaan, the LGBT Muslim group and it was great to see them receiving such a rapturous welcome for the crowds lining the route.
I had already decided to pull out of my appearance at XXL for their Pride special as a mini protest about what had been said. I know people say things in anger that that regret afterwards and none of us are perfect but in the spirit of Pride which is all about equality and inclusivity and against prejudice I decided that not doing the gig was the right thing to do.
I'd like it to be known that I am not boycotting XXL as I feel I've made my point and Mark has made his apology. If nothing else this incident has sparked a debate about how we all need to face up to our prejudices. It's hard to believe that any minority group who have been and continue to be persecuted by the majority can find themselves in a position of showing fear and contempt for any other minority group.
We all need to stand together and fight for the freedoms of each other otherwise we succeed only in encouraging the bigotry of others who wish to destroy us all. Yes there may be fraction in religious groups and others who are opposed to the rights and freedoms of the LGBT community but there are also those within our community and perhaps small parts of ourselves that need to be challenged and if a frank and open debate follows the events of the last few days then that can only be a good thing.
It is important to point out that I only saw one religious group protesting about Pride and they were so called Christians telling up to repent from our wicked ways. The folk from Imman simply invited them to join the parade an embrace diversity but sadly they could see past their own prejudice and continued to preach against our hard won freedoms.
We are lucky enough to be born into a country which has a history of fighting against oppression and for the freedoms of all and therefore one can understand any anger at those who choose to use this freedom of speech to preach hatred. The irony is that the very freedoms we have won mean that those who hate us are free to tell us so and therefore we have no other option to defend their right to do so to a certain extent.
After the parade I went for a swift half with some of the bears and then mate my mate Nick for a wonder up to Leicester Square to see what was going down. Sadly as it's been a while since I actually took part in the parade I'd forgotten how tiring it was so it wasn't long before we decided to slope off home to rest our weary feet.
I was soon perked up after a nice long shower and a change of clothes and jumped in a taxi heading for Vauxhall. For the forth or fifth year in a row the tavern had decided to put on a Saturday evening Pride special edition of S.L.A.G.S/Chill-Out and this year's was the busiest ever. The D E Experience came onto our stage hot foot from headlining the main stage at Trafalgar Square where he apparently made quite an impact.
It was a great evening and because I'd pulled out of my scheduled later gig I decided to pop along to Hard-On to see my mate Simon Wallis spin the tunes. I only managed to stay there for around a couple of hours but suffice to say the crowd were very sexy indeed and there were some very horny outfits being shown off.
The weekend was rounded off by my usual appearance at the tavern and I have to say it was probably one of the best Sundays I've ever spent there. I know I say it a lot but the D E Experience absolutely blew me and the audience away with a hysterical show. He performed about forty five minutes of incredible stand up comedy off the top of his head before he even sang a note, just astounding!
